SACRAMENTO— Yesterday, Assemblymember Alanis announced that his Assembly Bill 2085 (AB 2085) has successfully passed the Assembly Floor this week.
“AB 2085 is a common-sense step to protect consumers at a time when they are struggling to afford basic living expenses like groceries and gasoline,” said Assemblymember Alanis.
Current law does not always protect both parties in a transaction, particularly in industries like recycling, where typical consumers are often selling materials rather than purchasing them. AB 2085 closes this gap by ensuring visibility of measurements regardless of who is buying or selling.
AB 2085 requires commercial weighing and measuring devices to be positioned so that both parties in a transaction can clearly see the results. The bill also strengthens transparency requirements for point-of-sale pricing systems.
AB 2085 is now pending referral to a policy committee in the Senate.
Assemblymember Juan Alanis represents the 22nd Assembly District, which includes the communities of Modesto, Turlock, Ceres, Denair, Patterson, Gustine, Newman, Hilmar, Ballico, Snelling, Keyes, Grayson, Crows Landing, Diablo Grande, Stevinson, & Empire.
