SACRAMENTO— Today, Assemblymember Alanis announced that his bill, AB 2085, passes the Senate Committee on Business, Professions and Economic Development.
“Consumers should never have to guess whether a transaction is accurate,” said Assemblymember Alanis. “AB 2085 strengthens accountability and gives consumers greater confidence in everyday transactions.”
AB 2085 ensures that commercial weighing and measuring devices are positioned so that both parties in a transaction can clearly see the results. The bill also strengthens requirements for transparency in point-of-sale pricing systems.
Current law does not fully protect individuals in all transaction types, particularly in industries like recycling, where consumers are often selling materials rather than purchasing them. AB 2085 closes this gap by ensuring visibility of measurements regardless of who is buying or selling.
AB 2085 now moves forward to the Senate Committee on Appropriations.
Assemblymember Juan Alanis represents the 22nd Assembly District, which includes the communities of Modesto, Turlock, Ceres, Denair, Patterson, Gustine, Newman, Hilmar, Ballico, Snelling, Keyes, Grayson, Crows Landing, Diablo Grande, Stevinson, & Empire.
