ALANIS BILL TO SUPPORT EMERGENCY CARE IN UNDERSERVED RURAL COMMUNITY PASSES ASSEMBLY APPROPRIATIONS COMMITTEE

SACRAMENTO— Yesterday, Assemblymember Alanis announced that his bill to expand emergency health care access in his district passed the Assembly Appropriations Committee with unanimous, bipartisan support.

“Right now, thousands of my constituents must travel nearly 20 miles to the nearest emergency room,” said Assemblymember Alanis. “This bill will help expand access to health care for an already underserved community by providing emergency services close to home.”

Sponsored by the Del Puerto Health Care District, AB 2282 would allow Del Puerto HCD to temporarily operate a rural emergency stabilization center in Patterson, California. The measure would create a short-term solution to address the lack of emergency medical services available on the west side of Stanislaus County.

“Stanislaus County has been hit particularly hard by the shortage of health care professionals across California,” said Assemblymember Alanis. “When it comes to health care emergencies, every second matters. AB 2282 is a critical bill that could save lives. It certainly will improve access to healthcare on the west side.”

Del Puerto HCD is breaking ground next year on its mixed-use campus, which includes an expanded ambulance unit and a new behavioral health clinic, with additional facilities and services to follow. This bill creates a temporary solution to help provide health care access while the hospital is being constructed.

AB 2282 is now pending a vote on the Assembly floor.

Assemblymember Juan Alanis represents the 22nd Assembly District, which includes the communities of Modesto, Turlock, Ceres, Denair, Patterson, Gustine, Newman, Hilmar, Ballico, Snelling, Keyes, Grayson, Crows Landing, Diablo Grande, Stevinson, & Empire.
