AB 528 would align California state law with existing federal protections regarding the handling of child sexual abuse material evidence in criminal proceedings. It would do so by prohibiting the duplication, removal or distribution of evidence and ensure it stays with prosecutors and the courts.
As a former crimes against children detective, protecting kids is one of my top priorities. This critical legislation is a step in the right direction to ensure that child victims of sex crimes are not being revictimized or retraumatized as their cases proceed through the California justice system.
