The bill would exempt sworn probation officers from the jury selection process for criminal cases.
In a press release, the bill’s author Assemblymember Juan Alanis argues the job category should be exempt because it may negatively impact people on probation.
“The success of individuals on probation is directly tied to the effectiveness of probation officers,” Alanis said. “Pulling them away from their duties impacts their ability to effectively manage critical services for probationers.”
