ALANIS PASSES BILL SUPPORTING TRANSACTION TRANSPARENCY

SACRAMENTO — Assembly Bill 2085 (AB 2085) has successfully passed its first policy committee today on consent. This is a strong step forward in protecting consumers and promoting transparency in everyday transactions.

“Transparency is essential to fairness,” said Assemblymember Alanis. “Whether someone is buying groceries, pumping gas, or recycling materials, they deserve to clearly see how prices and payments are calculated.”

AB 2085 ensures that commercial weighing and measuring devices are positioned so that both parties in a transaction can clearly see the results. The bill also strengthens requirements for transparency in point-of-sale pricing systems.

Current law does not fully protect individuals in all transaction types, particularly in industries like recycling, where consumers are often selling materials rather than purchasing them. AB 2085 closes this gap by ensuring visibility of measurements regardless of who is buying or selling.

AB 2085 now moves forward to the Assembly Committee on Appropriations.

Assemblymember Juan Alanis represents the 22nd Assembly District, which includes the communities of Modesto, Turlock, Ceres, Denair, Patterson, Gustine, Newman, Hilmar, Ballico, Snelling, Keyes, Grayson, Crows Landing, Diablo Grande, Stevinson, & Empire.
