I am deeply concerned about the decision by the Kern County Water Agency to terminate services to the community of Diablo Grande on June 30, 2025. Last night Stanislaus County Supervisor Channce Condit and I discussed this issue where he brought several specifics to my attention. I have also received direct concerns from Diablo Grande residents and the Western Hills Water District via letters. Today my staff spoke with Chairman Buck Condit and Supervisor Terry Withrow from the Board of Supervisors. I have written a letter to the Governor’s Office and the Office of Emergency Services, and I have sent a letter the Department of Water Resources and the California Water Resource Control Board on this Issue. My immediate concern, and I believe the immediate concern of local leaders, is to ensure there is no disruption of water services to the nearly 600 households and 1,500 residents of this community. Ultimately, all levels of Government must sit down and collaborate on practical solutions to the complex problems that have existed for nearly two decades for this community. The current crisis is not the fault of the residents of Diablo Grande and I feel strongly they should not be held responsible for the current situation.
