SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Alanis announced that his bill, AB 2436, which supports farmers and ranchers, was signed into law by the Governor last week. This industry-supported measure aims to protect livestock against theft and misuse.
“I’m thankful to the Governor and my colleagues for backing this bill, which is important for California’s farming and ranching community,” said Assemblymember Alanis. “With rising costs and new pressures, like the push for electric vehicles, we need to support our producers so they can keep their businesses running.”
AB 2436 will adjust the existing Bureau of Livestock’s identification fees to help the Bureau continue their important livestock inspection services amidst rising costs. The California Department of Food and Agriculture’s (CDFA) Bureau of Livestock conducts inspections to protect cattle owners from theft, loss, and other risks. These inspections also aid in investigations and prosecutions of cattle theft cases. AB 2436 allows the Bureau to adjust fees in a fair way, so they can keep offering these essential services without adding extra financial burden on livestock producers.
“I will continue to advocate for common-sense bills that help reduce financial stress for California businesses,” added Assemblymember Alanis. “Updating our laws is just the first step in addressing the changing needs of our industries.”
AB 2436 is the ninth bill authored by Assemblymember Alanis to be signed into law during his first term. He still has eight other measures awaiting the Governor’s decision.
