SACRAMENTO – Assemblyman Juan Alanis has issued the following statement regarding the creation of the California State Assembly Select Committee on Distressed Hospitals:

I want to thank Speaker Rivas for establishing the new Select Committee on Distressed Hospitals. I also appreciate being appointed to serve on this critical Select Committee. With safety-net hospitals shutting down and others at risk, especially in rural California, it’s clear we must take action immediately. Hospital closures will have even more dramatic impacts on income insecure regions and low-income communities across the state. This committee must move to support these essential hospitals, which provide vital care to Californians on Medi-Cal and Medicaid in particular. I look forward to working with the committee and its Chair, a fellow Central Valley Assemblymember, Esmerelda Soria (D-Fresno), to tackle the challenges these hospitals face and help ensure everyone in California has access to critical healthcare services.

Assemblymember Juan Alanis represents the 22nd Assembly District, which includes the communities of Modesto, Turlock, Ceres, Denair, Patterson, Gustine, Newman, Hilmar, Ballico, Snelling, Keyes, Grayson, Crows Landing, Diablo Grande, Stevinson, & Empire.
