SACRAMENTO – The Vice-Chair of the Assembly Committee on Public Safety issued the following statement today after today’s special hearing on fentanyl legislation in the Assembly Public Safety Committee.
“I am pleased that the ball has moved down the field on this issue,” said Assemblymember Juan Alanis. “I am pleased we passed AB 701 (Villapudua) which increased sentencing enhancements for those who are in possession of large amounts of Fentanyl. I am disappointed we could not find common ground on what I believe were very common sense bills that could combat this plague raging across our state. To me the lack of action this legislature, both in the Assembly and in the Senate, is not just reckless, it is unconscionable to me. That being said, I have worked tirelessly since being elected to the Assembly to find common ground wherever possible and I will continue working with my colleagues, and the Committee Chairman Mr. Jones-Sawyer to find the necessary common ground to provide real and impactful results on this critical issue facing out state.”
Assemblymember Juan Alanis represents the 22nd Assembly District, which includes the communities of Modesto, Turlock, Ceres, Denair, Patterson, Gustine, Newman, Hilmar, Ballico, Snelling, Keyes, Grayson, Crows Landing, Diablo Grande, Stevinson, & Empire.
